Hello, Friends!

Today I would like to answer the question, "What is absolute serenity and how do I achieve it?"

Well to be completely honest the answer to this question is different for each person trying to achieve it. Of course, the traditional definition of serenity is to be at peace, without trouble, and in a state of calm.

How many of us can actually say that we have reached that state for an extended period of time? With life there are always circumstances that are thrown our way disrupt our serenity. But how can we take those moments when we DO experience serenity and extend them?

And for those of us who simply don't know how to achieve those moments at all, how do we go about achieving them?

The most "one size fits all" answer that I can give you is to find balance by becoming more whole. Easier said than done, I know. The best place to start understanding true balance is to understand WHAT it is exactly you are balancing! So let's begin:

-Your mind

-Your body

-Your soul

These three entities together can create wholeness within you that can expand to all parts of your life.

Let's start with your mind. The mind is a tricky but valuable asset that in retrospect, requires one thing. Growth. Your mind has the ability to grow exponentially! You just have to feed it and the best way to do that is to challenge yourself. Start with smaller tasks like reading a book, article or blog. (If your reading this then your one step ahead! Go you!) then start stretching your mind further. Attend seminars, take an art class, or study something new. Learning doesn't (and shouldn't) stop just because you have graduated college or high school.

Educating yourself is a great way to strengthen your mind as well as a few more traditional methods. Mindful meditation for 10-20 minutes a day can boost your attention span as well as keep you calm and collected. Impress your friends or loved one by memorizing a poem that you can recite at a drop of a hat. Its an excellent way to expand your brain muscles.

Your body is your temple. Cliche maybe but true!

We started with the mind because with a healthy mind, your body will follow close behind! A strong mind has the ability to follow through on tasks, stay dedicated to goals and make educated decisions.

With these strengths you are able to stick to meal plans and exercise plans with an end goal in sight You'll no longer follow "diet" plans but rather be able to commit yourself to a lifestyle change that will benefit your body. Eating healthy (preferably organic) food is best, especially paired with a routine exercise plan. Remember, the goal here isn't necessarily to lose weight or get a six pack (if it is, that's okay too) but rather to respect your body by keeping it well nourished and active. Making sure you eat regularly, get enough sleep and eat the right portions and nutrients is key.

Respect your body and it will provide you with more energy to complete tasks, get through your day and you will feel accomplished rather than exhausted!

Your soul is your "me place." The place where you turn when the world threatens your triad of serenity! You must decide how to nourish your soul. Some will find peace with spiritual searching, some will find it with travel. Whatever path you take to reaching wholeness in your soul is a personal choice best made alone. Although sharing this part of you with a supporting significant other is never a bad idea.

Understandably not all of us can travel the world regularly. But travel doesn't have to mean going far. Find a large park with plenty of quiet or private places to meditate or read a book. Find a nearby walking trail and listen to your favorite feel-good music or motivational speeches.

Once we understand how to reach a balance and come to peace with ourselves we can extend this into other parts of our lives. When life hits, now we are mentally, physically and internally more capable of standing back up after we fall down.
